Dominating the state shadow polls with over 44,000 votes, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar clinches a landslide victory in the Yobe State ADC presidential primary.

Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has emerged victorious in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election in Yobe State, securing a landslide victory over his closest rivals.

Delivering the official results on Monday at the party’s state secretariat in Damaturu, the Chairperson of the Electoral Committee and State Primary Election Returning Officer, Hajiya Ma’am Kyari, announced that Atiku polled a staggering aggregate of 44,841 votes.

The internal democratic exercise, which was conducted via direct primaries across the 178 political wards within the 17 local government areas of the state, saw other high-profile contenders trail far behind, with former Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, securing 300 votes, and financial expert, Mr. Mohamed Hayatudeen, garnering 365 votes.

Kyari formally declared Atiku the winner after verifying that he met all statutory internal requirements and locked down the highest volume of valid ballots cast. She highly commended the peaceful conduct of the election, noting that the entire exercise strictly mirrored the democratic guidelines and timelines laid down by the national leadership of the party.

“Having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, H.E. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, GCON, is hereby declared the winner of the ADC presidential primary election in Yobe State,” Kyari stated.

The committee chairperson expressed her gratitude to the teeming party members, electoral officials, and security personnel whose combined vigilance ensured a smooth process across the three senatorial districts of the state.

She also gave credit to the aspirants and their respective support groups for maintaining absolute decorum and sportsmanship throughout the high-stakes collation process.

Echoing her sentiments, the ADC governorship candidate in Yobe State, Mr. Kassim Geidam, described the shadow poll as a resounding structural success for the young opposition movement.

Geidam stated that stakeholders and party loyalists across Zones A, B, and C actively mobilized voters for the exercise, demonstrating the party’s deep grassroots reach.

He extended his appreciation to the state executive committee, traditional rulers, and law enforcement agencies for preserving the peace, while thanking members of the press for their professional and unbiased coverage of the primary election.
