Dismissing a viral fake report, the Presidency exposes a calculated plot of political destabilisation regarding claims that President Tinubu intends to rename the nation and abolish Sharia law.
The Presidency has strongly dismissed a viral story alleging that President Bola Tinubu is planning to execute radical constitutional amendments to rename the country the “United States of Nigeria” and entirely abolish Sharia Law in the Northern region.
In an official statement issued on Thursday, the Presidency made it absolutely clear that there is no truth whatsoever to the fabricated report. Officials described the claims, which heavily relied on anonymous sources, as a highly dubious plot orchestrated by desperate political actors specifically to create widespread disaffection, trigger a severe national political crisis, and unnecessarily overheat the country’s polity ahead of the upcoming electoral season.
Emphasizing the malicious nature of the publication, the State House urged all well-meaning Nigerians to disregard the viral report in its entirety, labeling its purveyors as literal agents of destabilisation and merchants of disorder who are eager to disrupt national peace.
The executive statement explicitly clarified that President Tinubu has no intention or plan whatsoever to transmit any proposed legislation code-named “Project True Federation” to the National Assembly by December 15 as a prelude to the January 2027 general elections.
Reminding the public of the rigid legal framework governing the country, the statement emphasized that constitutional changes are exceptionally serious legislative matters requiring rigorous parliamentary scrutiny, oversight, and debate, rather than something that can be achieved at the arbitrary whim of the Executive or the legislature.
To successfully pass, any such amendment strictly demands a mandatory two-thirds majority vote in both chambers of the National Assembly alongside the formal concurrence of at least 24 State Houses of Assembly.
Reaffirming the administration’s actual trajectory, the Presidency noted that President Tinubu remains fully focused on the arduous task of entrenching deep economic reforms and delivering tangible democratic dividends to citizens, while warning the public to be extremely wary of consuming highly divisive, fake news reports designed to proliferate as national political campaigns gain momentum.
