Announcing the official results at the party secretariat on Friday in Makurdi, the Chairman of the primary election committee, Professor Muhammad Isah, confirmed that Alia secured the highest number of votes cast during the democratic exercise.
According to the committee’s breakdown, three aspirants-Alia, Jeffrey Kuranun, and Terwase Orbunde-actively contested for the party’s highly coveted ticket, with the incumbent governor pooling an overwhelming 367,786 votes to decisively defeat Kuranun, who scored 2,923 votes, and Orbunde, who secured 3,247 votes. In his acceptance speech, Governor Alia warmly pledged to work closely with his co-contestants and aggressively promote internal peace, stating that the conclusive outcome of the primaries has effectively settled recent anxieties within the state chapter of the APC.
He congratulated his fellow aspirants, emphasizing that there was neither a victor nor a vanquished in the democratic contest, while appealing to any individuals who might still feel aggrieved from the various legislative primaries to search their hearts and find common ground.
Looking ahead, the governor highlighted his administration’s ongoing massive road construction projects, healthcare investments, educational reforms, and job creation milestones, explicitly pledging to employ a fresh batch of teachers during the final year of his first term before receiving a formal vote of affirmation from party leaders representing the three senatorial districts of Benue State.
