Minister of Works David Umahi donates an 18-seater bus to the Ebonyi NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel and urges journalists to champion development-focused reportage.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, on Wednesday donated a brand new 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus to the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council, while actively advocating for more responsible, development-focused reportage.
Presenting the vehicle in Abakaliki, the former Ebonyi State governor commended the chapel members for sustaining high professionalism and ethical standards in their duties, noting that he has long enjoyed a cordial relationship with the press.
He emphasized that negative portrayals could heavily discourage investors and visitors from identifying with Ebonyi and the wider South-East region, reinforcing his personal philosophy that his strength comes from God rather than political media battles.
The minister explained that the strategic vehicle donation aims to support journalists in executing their assignments effectively, specifically so they can track, monitor, and report on the numerous ongoing federal infrastructure projects initiated by President Bola Tinubu across the country.
Highlighting major road and bridge developments currently reshaping the South-East, Umahi urges the region’s population to support the current administration and consider backing Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 as a direct appreciation for these inclusive development efforts. Furthermore, Umahi dismissed lingering speculations of a political rift between himself and his successor, Governor Francis Nwifuru, affirming that they maintain a strong, united relationship dedicated to the progress of the state and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Accepting the donation, the Chairman of the Chapel and Sun correspondent, Mr. Uchenna Inya, expressed deep gratitude for the minister’s immense generosity and pledged that the union would utilize the vehicle effectively to spotlight the Federal Government’s developmental milestones.
