Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has been appointed Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to contest in the 2027 elections.
The appointment elevates Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu from her previous position as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, placing her at the forefront of Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements at a critical time for the country’s foreign policy direction.
In the same announcement, President Tinubu nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending Senate confirmation. Enikanolaiye previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
Citing details from presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the nomination reflects Enikanolaiye’s extensive diplomatic career spanning over three decades, including his tenure as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and postings across major global capitals.
The Presidency said the appointments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy framework, improve strategic international engagement, and enhance global partnerships.
President Tinubu congratulated the appointees and urged them to prioritise Nigeria’s national interest through economic diplomacy, regional cooperation, and the protection of citizens at home and abroad.
