President Bola Tinubu says infrastructure development and economic reforms are designed to improve citizens’ well-being and lay a foundation for long-term prosperity, as he inaugurates Gateway Cargo Airport in Ogun.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said his administration’s infrastructure development and economic reforms across sectors are aimed at improving the well-being and prosperity of Nigerians.
The President gave the assurance on Saturday in Iperu, Ogun State, during the inauguration of the Gateway Cargo International Airport built by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun. He also launched two aircraft for the new Gateway Airline.
“Our investment is about our people. The infrastructure underscores our faith in our country, the belief that today’s foundation is for tomorrow’s prosperity. Thank you all for your understanding,” Tinubu said.
The President commended Governor Abiodun for his commitment to the well-being of citizens, noting that the airport was connected to independent power, reflecting strategic investment in energy.
“Development must touch every level. I am particularly pleased with the mobility, the security and the agricultural initiatives being fulfilled today,” he added.
In addition to inaugurating the airport, the President launched 1,000 electric bikes, security vehicles and tractors.
Tinubu also thanked Nigerians for their continued faith in the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying ongoing reforms had translated into more resources for sub-national governments. He expressed satisfaction with governors’ utilisation of funds for development and praised Abiodun for aligning state initiatives with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President described the deployment of electric bikes as a smart response to modern transportation needs, noting that embracing technology over fossil fuels would improve daily life.
He also commended the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for initiatives that have enhanced ease of doing business and improved staff welfare.
During the visit, Tinubu launched a Customs Hub comprising barracks, a training college, a warehouse and a hospital.
Governor Abiodun described the President’s visit as historic and symbolic of his commitment to national development and belief in sub-national governments as engines of growth.
He praised Tinubu’s economic reforms, including foreign exchange unification, fuel subsidy removal and public finance restructuring, which he said had restored investor confidence and attracted foreign direct investment.
Abiodun also cited initiatives such as the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Programme, NELFUND, rail modernisation and major highway projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Badagry-Sokoto Highway, as evidence of efforts to reset the national economy.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended Tinubu’s democratic credentials and described the National Assembly as vital to strengthening democracy. He also urged the decentralisation of the Transmission Company of Nigeria to improve power supply.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo thanked Tinubu for what he described as visionary leadership and reflected on the state’s development over the past 50 years.
Ministers, governors from several states, traditional rulers and other dignitaries attended the event.
