President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu on his appointment as Acting General Secretary of CAF, describing it as a historic milestone for Nigeria and West Africa.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian football administrator, Samson Adamu, on his appointment as Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), describing it as a proud moment for Nigeria and the West African subregion.

The President noted that Adamu’s appointment, announced on Saturday, March 29, marks the first time a Nigerian has occupied the top administrative position in CAF since the organisation’s establishment in 1957.

Adamu, who previously served as Director of Tournaments and Events at CAF, assumed the role in an acting capacity following the departure of Veron Mosengo-Omba.

Tinubu described the appointment as a significant milestone for Nigerian sports and a strong affirmation of the country’s leadership and influence in African football administration.

He commended Adamu’s track record of professionalism and dedication, particularly his contributions to the organisation of major CAF competitions across the continent.

The President also noted that the appointment comes at a time of renewed focus on sports development in Nigeria, aligned with his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, national unity and global competitiveness.

Tinubu expressed confidence that Adamu would deploy his experience and administrative competence to strengthen CAF’s operations and advance football development across its 54 member associations.

He wished him success in the acting role and assured him of Nigeria’s full support as he undertakes the responsibility.
