Benue Police Command disburses N3.6 million to seven families of officers who died in active service, as part of activities marking National Police Week.

The Nigeria Police Force Command in Benue State has disbursed cheques totalling N3.6 million to seven families of personnel who died in active service.

Presenting the cheques to the next of kin in Makurdi, the Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, commended the families for their steadfastness.

Emenari explained that the funds were drawn from the Police Welfare Scheme as approved by the Inspector-General of Police. He added that the force would continue to remember the deceased officers for their service to the nation.

Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Finance and Administration, Yakubu Mohammed, the CP said the support was aimed at cushioning the impact of the loss on the families, particularly in meeting educational needs.

He noted that the exercise formed part of activities lined up to mark the 2026 National Police Week.

Also speaking, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Okon Asuquo, said the Inspector-General of Police had prioritised the welfare of personnel.

Asuquo advised the beneficiaries to invest the funds in businesses that would help them become self-reliant while awaiting other benefits from the force.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Doolumum Abimiku thanked the police for the continued support to personnel and their families even after death.
