Edo State Government has increased the monthly subvention to Edo University, Iyamoh, from N100 million to N250 million to boost academic excellence and institutional development.

The Edo State Government has increased its monthly subvention to Edo University Iyamoh from N100 million to N250 million to enhance academic excellence.

The Vice Chancellor, Victor Adetimirin, disclosed this during the institution’s 7th convocation ceremony held in Iyamoh on Saturday.

He explained that the university council had requested an increase in the monthly subvention upon assumption of office, adding that the approval took effect by October.

According to Adetimirin, the increased funding has restored staff confidence and improved students’ academic performance.

The vice chancellor also revealed that 850 students graduated during the convocation, including 693 first-degree holders and 157 postgraduate students.

He described the ceremony as not just the end of an academic journey, but a reaffirmation of the university’s mission to become globally competitive and focused on service, societal impact and excellence.

Addressing the graduands, he urged them to uphold integrity, innovation and resilience in a competitive and technology-driven world.

The Visitor to the university and Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebhole, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the institution into a world-class university.

Okpebhole, represented by his Special Adviser on Policy and Strategy, Philip Afaha, said the increased subvention aligned with the government’s education development agenda.

He pledged sustained interventions and upgrades to reposition the institution, noting that the state aims to become a hub for academic excellence.
