An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan sentenced a 25-year-old security guard to three years’ imprisonment for stealing N6.1 million from his employer.
An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old security guard, Oladipo Titilope, to three years’ imprisonment for stealing N6.1 million from his employer.
Titilope was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and causing malicious damage. He pleaded guilty to the charges.
Following his plea, the Magistrate, M. Mudashiru, found him guilty and convicted him accordingly.
The court sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment at the Agodi Correctional Facility, noting that the punishment would serve as a deterrent to others.
Mudashiru also ordered the convict to pay N4.7 million as restitution to the complainant after serving his jail term.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sikiru Ibrahim, told the court that the convict committed the offence on February 6 at about 11:00 a.m.
He said the convict conspired with others still at large to maliciously damage an iron safe valued at N100,000 and stole N6.1 million belonging to his employer, Adewunmi Adejobi.
According to the prosecutor, the convict fled Ibadan after committing the offence but was later arrested in his village in Osun State.
He added that N450,000 cash and two phones valued at N910,000 were recovered from the convict.
The offences contravene Sections 390(9), 451 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
