Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited engages investors in Enugu, highlighting smart metering, vendor financing and AI-driven revenue assurance in the state’s electricity market.

Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has engaged key stakeholders and potential investors at the Enugu State Investor Forum, focusing on opportunities within the state’s electricity market.

The forum, held at the International Conference Centre, featured discussions on vendor financing, private sector participation and the Smart Metering Demonstrator project implemented by the United Kingdom Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility in collaboration with MEDL.

The pilot project demonstrated how artificial intelligence could be leveraged by distribution companies to enhance revenue assurance and attract private investment through data-driven metering.

MEDL Managing Director, Ernest Mupwaya, and Chief Commercial Officer, Ikenna Akabogu, participated in panel sessions examining strategies to bridge the gap between utility bankability, revenue assurance and private capital.

The discussions also explored pathways for replicating successful electricity market models across other state markets.

Mupwaya assured investors that MEDL was open for business and ready to collaborate to close the metering gap across its network.

Notable attendees included Enugu State Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industry, Samuel Ogbu-Nwobodo, who represented Governor Peter Mbah; Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Enyinnaya Franklin Ogbonna; Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Chijioke Okonkwo; and UKNIAF Team Lead, Frank Edozie.
