Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 82 Division Garrison have rescued 12 kidnapped victims in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
A source at the Army Headquarters disclosed that the rescue operation followed a distress call received on Thursday regarding the abduction of residents of Ette Community.
According to the source, the troops swiftly mobilised and launched a fighting patrol to track the kidnappers after receiving the alert.
The operation involved collaboration with local security outfits including Keystone operatives, Forest Guards, and the Neighbourhood Watch.
The kidnappers reportedly fled into a nearby forest after a brief encounter with the advancing troops.
During a follow-up search of the area, the soldiers successfully rescued all 12 kidnapped victims, who were later handed over to the Nigeria Police Force.
The victims are expected to undergo debriefing before being reunited with their families.
Security operatives also arrested two suspects believed to be connected with the kidnapping incident.
The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Authorities said the security situation in the area remains calm, while security agencies continue surveillance operations to track down other suspects who fled the scene.
