IMT Convocation 2026 saw 28,848 students graduate in Enugu as the Institute of Management and Technology cleared an eight-year backlog, announced key industry partnerships and rewarded top HND graduates with full employment offers and accommodation.

The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, graduated 28,848 students at its combined 43rd to 50th convocation ceremony, effectively clearing an eight-year academic backlog.
The milestone event, held in Enugu, marked a significant turnaround for the institution and underscored what the management described as a new phase of academic stability and institutional renewal under the banner of IMT Convocation 2026.
Accreditation, Curriculum Reform and Industry Alignment
In his address, the Rector said the institution had undergone comprehensive academic and structural reforms aimed at repositioning it as a technology-driven and industry-aligned polytechnic.

He announced that IMT recorded a 100 percent pass rate in its 2025 accreditation and re-accreditation exercises conducted in line with the standards of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), affirming that all academic programmes remain fully approved.
The Rector stated that the curriculum has been restructured around a “One Diploma, One Skill” framework designed to equip students with practical, market-relevant competencies.
“Every diploma awarded by IMT is deliberately matched with a specific, employable skill,” he said, adding that the institution has intensified training in digital literacy, workshops and hands-on technical education.
He also unveiled a one-year Top-Up affiliation programme with the Cross River State University, enabling Higher National Diploma (HND) holders to upgrade their qualifications through an accelerated pathway intended to enhance career mobility and global competitiveness.

Technology Partnership and Job Creation Drive
As part of efforts to strengthen industry collaboration, the Rector announced a partnership with Arone Technology Limited to establish a technology manufacturing facility.
According to him, the facility is projected to produce over 30,000 solar energy systems, 5,000 drones and 200 artificial intelligence servers within four years, with the potential to generate up to 20,000 jobs.
On financial sustainability, he disclosed that the management had revitalised internally generated revenue ventures, including bread, water and tissue production, while commercially deploying previously underutilised institutional assets.
Government Commendation at IMT Convocation 2026
Visitor to the Institution, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah represented by the Deputy Governor, Ifeanyi Ossai Esq., congratulated the graduating students and conveyed the state government’s commitment to continue supporting IMT to attain greater heights.

He commended the IMT management for what he described as measurable progress, noting improvements in teaching and learning standards.
“As a government, we are impressed with the strides that IMT has recorded,” he said.
Addressing the graduands, the deputy governor reminded them that convocation ceremonies reflect not only academic attainment but also character and discipline.
He noted that IMT, established in 1965, remains one of the oldest tertiary institutions in the Eastern region and said many of its alumni have distinguished themselves professionally.
While acknowledging the newly introduced Top-Up programme, he maintained that HND holders should already be competitive in the global marketplace. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to education, disclosing that about 30 percent of the state budget is allocated to the sector as part of efforts to position Enugu as a knowledge-based economy, including investments in smart schools and sustained support to IMT.
He urged the institution to maintain a stable academic calendar and avoid further backlog, while encouraging graduates to support their alma mater through active alumni engagement.
Awards, Employment Offers Mark IMT Convocation 2026
A major highlight of IMT Convocation 2026 was the recognition of outstanding academic performance. Several best graduating HND students received awards for excellence in their respective faculties.
In a further boost to the institution’s employability drive, some of the top-performing HND graduates were offered immediate full employment, complete with accommodation packages – a move widely applauded by attendees as a practical demonstration of the Institute’s industry relevance and renewed credibility.

A Defining Moment for IMT
Beyond the numbers, IMT Convocation 2026 signalled a decisive institutional reset: the clearance of an eight-year backlog, full accreditation of programmes, structured industry partnerships and direct employment pathways for exceptional graduates.
For IMT, the ceremony was not merely the conferment of diplomas but a public affirmation of restored academic stability and renewed purpose. With backlog cleared and reforms underway, the institution now faces the more demanding task of sustaining momentum – ensuring that future convocations are defined not by recovery, but by consistent excellence and measurable impact.
