A 46-year-old woman, Maria Ajimosun, was on Wednesday arraigned before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court over allegations of stealing property belonging to her late sister and brother-in-law.
Ajimosun, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing. She pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, PC Olapeju Durodola, told the court that the defendant allegedly conspired with others still at large to commit the offence in March 2025.
According to the prosecution, following the death of her sister, Esther Adesiyan, the defendant allegedly took the deceased’s ATM card and withdrew N5.5 million from her Guaranty Trust Bank account, converting the funds to personal use.
She was also accused of stealing a Lexus RX350 Jeep valued at N16 million, alongside ATM cards belonging to Guaranty Trust Bank and First Bank of Nigeria, from the deceased’s residence. The items were said to belong to Mr. Michael Adesiyan, husband of the deceased.
The prosecutor stated that the defendant was subsequently arrested by the police.
The alleged offences contravene Sections 383, 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N25 million with two sureties in like sum. The court ruled that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.
The case was adjourned until March 23 for hearing.
