The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has arrested 17 suspects and seized various illicit substances during coordinated raids across the state.

The operation, code-named “Operation Ramadan Mubarak,” was carried out as part of efforts to ensure a safe and drug-free environment during the holy month of Ramadan.

The State Commander, Mr. Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday in Kano by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari.

According to Yahaya-Lawal, the intelligence-driven enforcement exercise targeted strategic locations across Kano, including Race Course, Dan’agundi, Filin Mahaha, Kano Zoological Garden, Farm Centre by Zaria Road and Tashar Rami Na’ibawa.

He said the coordinated raids led to the arrest of 17 suspects allegedly involved in drug-related activities.

Items recovered during the operation included methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice,” cannabis sativa, Exol-5, diazepam and rubber solution.

The commander stated that the seizures underscored the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and curbing the distribution and abuse of narcotics within the state.

He noted that the enforcement drive aligns with the directive of NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba-Marwa, who has called for intensified nationwide operations to promote a drug-free society.

Yahaya-Lawal reaffirmed the command’s resolve to safeguard communities across Kano State, assuring residents that similar operations would continue throughout Ramadan.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to assist the agency in combating illicit drug activities.
