Renowned entrepreneur and social figure, Obi Cubana, has announced his entry into politics, calling for a new culture of clean, issue-driven political engagement anchored by Nigerian youths.
Cubana made the declaration on Thursday in Abuja during the official presentation of the City Boy Movement (CBM) Guideline and Flag, conducted by the Director-General of the movement, Mr. Oluwatosin Shoga.
Speaking on his political involvement, Cubana described his approach as a distinct “brand of politics” rooted in positivity, discipline, and responsible communication, stressing that young people remain the backbone of every nation.
“Youths are central to national growth. At some point, power will be handed over, and there is no other group to hand it over to than the youth,” he said.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for demonstrating commitment to youth development, urging young Nigerians to prepare themselves for leadership responsibilities at all levels of governance.
Addressing reactions to his recent political comments on social media, Cubana said the response had been unprecedented, noting that he personally manages his online platforms and maintains strict standards of conduct.
“I keep my page clean because I can’t go down to where negativity is coming from. Anywhere they want to go low, we go higher,” he said.
He cautioned supporters against engaging in abusive exchanges on his behalf, insisting that political disagreements should be addressed through education and enlightenment rather than insults.
“You can’t use abuse to teach people what is right. When they abuse you, you teach them. Keep enlightening them and the results will speak for themselves,” he said.
Cubana described the current political atmosphere as a period of transition, saying a “wind of change” was blowing through Nigeria’s political space and should be embraced with discipline, focus, and resilience.
He urged youths and supporters to remain steadfast, avoid distractions, and commit to constructive engagement, stressing that consistency would ultimately yield results.
Also speaking, a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, described Obi Cubana as a committed patriot whose dedication to service transcends partisan politics.
He praised Cubana’s resilience in the face of public criticism and social media backlash, describing it as evidence of courage and genuine commitment to national development.
“This is not about partisan politics; it is about service and doing what is right for Nigeria. Meaningful reforms often come with resistance, especially at the early stages,” Alao-Akala said.
He added that while populist policies may attract instant approval, true leadership requires the courage to take difficult decisions for long-term economic stability.
Earlier, the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Mr. Oluwatosin Shoga, formally welcomed Cubana, describing the large turnout of supporters as a sign of growing momentum.
“We are proud to have you as a leader in the South-East, and we believe significant change will follow,” Shoga said.
He explained that the movement was focused on reshaping the political consciousness of young Nigerians and grooming business leaders and professionals for elective and appointive offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“If you are not involved, you cannot change the story,” he said, urging youths to organise, engage constructively, and prepare to play decisive roles in shaping Nigeria’s future.
