Firemen from the Oyo State Fire Services Agency have recovered the lifeless body of a 45-year-old man who died after entering a deep well in an attempt to rescue his goat in the Mokola area of the Saki community.
The Chairman of the agency, Mr. Moroof Akinwande, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan.
According to Akinwande, the agency received a distress call regarding the incident at exactly 10:23 p.m. on Monday through a telephone report from a resident, Mr. Yusuf Ismail.
He said fire service personnel, led by Principal Fire Superintendent II, Kolade Taiwo, were immediately deployed to the scene.
“On arrival, our officers discovered that a man, estimated to be about 45 years old, was trapped inside a deep well,” Akinwande said.
He explained that the rescue team swiftly commenced operations, securing the victim with the necessary safety equipment before retrieving him from the well.
“Unfortunately, the man was confirmed dead at the point of recovery,” he added.
The agency chairman stated that preliminary findings revealed the incident occurred when the deceased entered the well in an effort to rescue a goat that had fallen inside and become trapped.
Akinwande expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased and cautioned members of the public against entering wells, stressing that such actions are extremely dangerous and often result in severe injuries or loss of life.
