The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed March 28 and March 29, 2026, for its national convention, scheduled to hold in Abuja.
The decision was announced in a communiqué issued at the end of the party’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday night.
The communiqué was read by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, after the meeting at the official residence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja.
Signed by Mohammed and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the communiqué stated that the decision was reached by the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Caretaker Committee (NCC).
The NEC also approved the conduct of ward and local government congresses in February, while state congresses are scheduled for March.
According to the party, the NEC directed the NCC, working with the National Organising Secretary and other relevant party organs, to issue comprehensive guidelines, notices and modalities for the conduct of the congresses.
It stressed that all processes must strictly comply with the PDP Constitution, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regulations, and all subsisting judicial directives.
The NEC further unanimously reaffirmed all resolutions reached at the 104th emergency NEC meeting of December 7, 2025, declaring them binding, lawful and fully operative.
“All actions taken pursuant to the 104th NEC resolutions remain valid, having been carried out in strict compliance with the PDP Constitution, the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act, and relevant judicial pronouncements,” the communiqué stated.
The NEC also welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the party’s leadership structure and directed INEC to recognise the duly constituted caretaker committee.
It resolved that all PDP organs, members and stakeholders must continue to obey existing court judgments and urged INEC and other relevant institutions to fully comply with the ruling in the interest of democracy and constitutional order.
The committee reaffirmed the legitimacy and authority of the Mohammed-led NCC, with Anyanwu as Secretary, stressing that it remains the only lawful national administrative organ of the party, pending the national convention.
The NEC also endorsed the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee and other caretaker committees at the state and zonal levels until the completion of the convention and congresses.
The NCC was mandated to immediately activate convention sub-committees and commence full logistical, administrative and consultative preparations to ensure a transparent, inclusive and credible convention.
The party urged all stakeholders, members and supporters within Nigeria and the diaspora to remain law-abiding, united and committed to the ideals of the PDP.
