The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recovered firearms and other dangerous weapons from suspected cultists during a security operation carried out in Uyo, the state capital.

The recovery followed actionable intelligence received by the command on January 27, 2026, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, in Uyo.

DSP John said the intelligence revealed that suspected members of the Vikings confraternity were holding a meeting at Ikot Okubo, near a transformer off Abak Road, Uyo.

“Upon swift deployment to the location, operatives stormed the area, prompting the suspects to flee on sighting the police, abandoning several dangerous weapons at the scene,” she said.

Items recovered during the operation included one locally made double-barrel gun loaded with two cartridges, two locally made pistols each loaded with a cartridge, and one cutlass.

The police spokesperson added that following the operation, the command had intensified surveillance, patrols, and targeted raids in the area to track down the fleeing suspects.

She reiterated the command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements, stressing that no individual or group threatening public peace and security would be spared.

DSP John urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to the police to support crime prevention and public safety efforts across the state.
