A 65 year-old man, Oluyemi Lawrence, on Friday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over alleged Fraud involving ₦20 million.

Lawrence, who resides in the Akala Expressway area of Ibadan, was docked on a two-count charge bordering on fraud and stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Foluke Adedosu, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences in September 2023 at Bel-Air Estate, Akala Expressway, Ibadan.

According to the prosecution, Lawrence fraudulently obtained the sum of ₦20 million from the complainant, Dr. Ekanade Adetunji, under the pretext of selling plots of land to him. Adedosu said the defendant failed to deliver the land and instead converted the money to his personal use.

She added that the alleged offences contravened Sections 390 and 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A. T. Oyediji, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦2 million with two sureties in like sum.

Oyediji ruled that each surety must have a minimum of ₦2 million in their bank accounts and adjourned the case until February 12, 2026, for mention.
