A Jos Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 45 year-old housekeeper, Mak-Henry Lynn, to two years’ imprisonment for cheating and breach of trust.

The conviction followed Lynn’s guilty plea to a two-count charge filed by the police. Delivering judgment on Tuesday, Magistrate Mrs Irene Pati imposed a one-year jail term for breach of trust or an option of a ₦25,000 fine, and an additional one-year sentence for cheating with the same fine option. The court ordered that both sentences run concurrently.

In addition to the prison term, the magistrate directed the convict to pay ₦280,000 as compensation to the complainant.

While presenting the facts of the case, the prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the matter was reported on October 27, 2025, by the complainant, Mrs Tabitha Ezekiel. He explained that the convict was entrusted with ₦280,000 to pay for house rent on behalf of the complainant but instead converted the money to his personal use.

According to the prosecution, the act constituted cheating and breach of trust, offences punishable under the Plateau State Penal Code Law.

The court noted that the guilty plea and evidence presented clearly established the offence, leading to the conviction and sentencing.
