Dr Ahmed Ajuji has been re-elected as the National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) at the party’s National Convention held on Saturday in Abuja.
Ajuji emerged unopposed through a voice vote at the convention, which was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The convention also returned Dipo Olayoku as National Secretary, alongside other national officers, all of whom were elected unopposed and subsequently affirmed by delegates present.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Ajuji pledged that the newly elected leadership would work tirelessly to advance the objectives of the NNPP, with a strong focus on securing victory in the 2027 general elections.
He said the leadership accepted the responsibility entrusted to them to manage the affairs of the party over the next four years and urged all national officers to see their re-election as a call to service.
Ajuji stressed the importance of discipline, unity and adherence to the oath of office administered at the convention.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Ajuji encouraged party members to remain hopeful and committed to building a strong, united, progressive and prosperous democratic nation.
He said the NNPP had been repositioned, restructured and strengthened as a major stakeholder in Nigeria’s democratic process.
“Our flag must fly higher across the country to reassure Nigerians that a better and more prosperous nation is achievable,” he said.
The National Leader of the NNPP and former Governor of Kano State, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, congratulated the newly elected national executives and urged them to remain disciplined and loyal to the party.
Kwankwaso said the performance of the NNPP-led government in Kano State reflected what Nigerians should expect if the party wins power in 2027.
Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State described the convention as a defining moment for the party and urged the new leadership to promote unity, fairness and inclusiveness.
The Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee, Bala Mohammed, said the convention ratified decisions of the National Executive Committee and reinforced unity within the party.
Similarly, the party’s National Adviser, Magaji Ibrahim, dismissed rumours of division within the NNPP, assuring members that the party remained united under Kwankwaso’s leadership.
A major highlight of the convention was the ratification of the suspension of Article 37(1) of the NNPP Constitution 2024 (as amended).
