Burkina Faso release of a Nigerian Air Force aircraft and 11 military personnel detained after a forced landing has been confirmed by the Federal Government.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the development on Wednesday night through its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, who said the aircraft and personnel had been released by the authorities.

“Yes, they have been released,” Ebienfa stated.

The release followed a high-level diplomatic engagement led by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who met with Burkina Faso’s military ruler, Ibrahim Traoré, in Ouagadougou on Wednesday.

After securing their release, Tuggar met with the 11 Nigerian Air Force personnel who had been held for several days after their aircraft made an emergency landing in Burkina Faso.

The delegation sent by President Bola Tinubu, alongside the released officers, is expected to return to Nigeria today (Thursday).
