PDP Reaffirms Commitment to Democracy Ahead of 2027 Elections
December 11, 2025
The National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, has reassured Nigerians that the party is strengthening its internal democracy as it prepares for a major political comeback in 2027. Turaki made the remarks in Abuja during a strategic meeting between the new National Working Committee (NWC) and PDP lawmakers in the National Assembly.
He pledged to uphold fairness, transparency and an open-door leadership style, stressing that impunity, manipulation and favouritism would no longer be tolerated within the party.
“I want to assure Nigerians, especially PDP members, that we will listen and respond promptly to their needs. Nigerians will be allowed to aspire and achieve their goals. PDP is now a true party,” Turaki said.
He described the engagement with the National Assembly caucus as essential to the party’s broader 2027 strategy, noting that effective collaboration would strengthen the PDP’s mission to “transform Nigeria through the instrumentality of the party.”
Sen. Abdul Ningi, representing the Senate PDP caucus, praised the NWC’s direction. He said the party has the resources and capacity to reclaim power, as long as members remain loyal and focused.
“We know the issues in PDP are man-made, and man-made problems require man-made solutions. The challenges are solvable,” Ningi said. He added that the party’s long-term vision goes beyond the 2027 elections.
Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Ali Isa, reiterated lawmakers’ readiness to support Turaki’s leadership. He urged Nigerians to back the PDP, saying the party has the expertise to strengthen democratic institutions and guide national development.
Earlier, the NWC also met with PDP ex-officio members to discuss strategic priorities as the party aligns its structures for the future.
