Troops of the Nigerian Army stopped a major assault on Chibok after more than 300 Terrorists attempted a coordinated pre-dawn attack on the community. The confrontation showcased strong tactical control, swift response, and effective battlefield awareness.
According to a reliable military source, the Terrorists moved in around 2:50 a.m., approaching Chibok from several directions in an effort to overwhelm security positions. The 28 Task Force Brigade, supported by ambush teams and surveillance posts positioned on nearby mountains, detected early movement and engaged immediately.
The source said the soldiers held their ground through more than two hours of intense fighting, forcing the Terrorists to abandon the offensive and retreat in confusion toward the Azir axis at about 5:00 a.m.
In response, the 25 Brigade was directed to block escape routes by establishing ambush positions ahead of the Azir Bridge, aided by real-time guidance from a Nigerian Army UAV. The source noted that the Terrorists split into multiple directions, but troops disrupted their withdrawal.
He stated: “Although the terrorists scattered into several directions on sensing the approach, troops successfully disrupted their escape.”
No casualties or equipment losses were recorded. Officials described this as proof of the troops’ discipline and combat readiness, stressing that “No soldier or equipment was lost in the encounter”.
“Exploitation operations were ongoing at the time of filing this report,” he added.
The successful pushback reinforces the military’s resilience and ability to counter large-scale Terrorists’ offensives despite coordinated attacks.
