The Kano State Fire Service rescued a 65-year-old woman, Hajiya Khadija Muhammad, after she fell into a well in Gafiyawa town, near the Mamuda Group of Company in Kumbotso Local Government Area. The agency confirmed the incident in a statement released by its Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the fall occurred on Wednesday at about 9:57 a.m., prompting a distress call from one Ibrahim Sani. Abdullahi said a rescue team and response vehicle were immediately deployed to the scene at 10:15 a.m.

“The woman accidentally fell inside the well due to her mental illness and by God’s intervention, and through the swift efforts of our men, she was rescued alive and handed over to her brother, Malam Ibrahim Dahiru,” he said.

The incident highlighted the dangers posed by unsecured water sources in residential areas. Authorities urged homeowners to take preventive measures such as reinforcing the height of well openings and installing protective metal covers.

The Kano State Fire Service emphasized that proactive safety practices remain essential in preventing future emergencies. The well rescue operation also served as a reminder of the crucial role prompt response plays in saving lives during community accidents. Residents were further encouraged to report emergencies immediately to improve survival outcomes.

Officials reiterated their commitment to ensuring that emergency services remain responsive and well-prepared for similar incidents, stressing the importance of community cooperation. Through consistent public awareness and quick intervention, they believe future risks can be significantly reduced, making well rescue operations less frequent across the state.
