The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed that Nigeria will remain a united and indivisible nation, insisting that the country will overcome its current challenges through faith and collective responsibility.

Speaking at the thanksgiving service for the investiture of Most Rev. Sunday Onuoha as Archbishop on Special Duties at the Methodist Unity Cathedral, Abuja, she said Nigeria’s future remained firmly in God’s hands. Represented by Bishop Stephen Adegbite, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, the First Lady encouraged citizens to continue praying for the nation, the Church and its leaders.

She stressed that while Nigeria welcomes international assistance, the country will not be intimidated or pushed into becoming a weak or divided state. According to her, Nigerians will celebrate Christmas in peace as the nation moves toward restoration and unity.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, also called for global cooperation to tackle the country’s ongoing challenges. He said effective partnerships with international allies could strengthen national responses without undermining sovereignty, particularly in areas relating to security, economic stability and governance.

Kalu emphasised that faith institutions must remain central in promoting peace and fostering unity. He added that nation-building requires all stakeholders, including the Church, to contribute actively to solutions, encourage civic responsibility and strengthen community trust.

Archbishop Onuoha later told journalists that Nigeria must accept help wherever necessary, noting that the country’s situation demands collective contributions. He said denying obvious realities, especially those linked to security, hinders progress and delays solutions. According to him, seeking external support is no different from accepting financial or humanitarian assistance during crises.

He cautioned against blame games and polarisation, stressing that human life remains sacred regardless of ethnicity or religion. Onuoha pledged to work closely with the Church, the government and community organisations to promote reconciliation and address recurring security challenges.
