Shutdown measures have been enforced in Kebbi as the state government ordered the closure of all public and private secondary schools, alongside several tertiary institutions, due to rising security concerns.

The decision was announced in a joint statement issued in Birnin Kebbi by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Issa Abubakar-Tunga, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Halima Bande. The government said the shutdown was necessary in response to recent attacks in parts of the state.

Institutions affected include the State Polytechnic Dakingari, Kebbi University of Science and Technology Aliero, College of Health Sciences and Technology Jega, and the College of Education Argungu. However, the College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery, Birnin Kebbi, will remain open.

The commissioners directed all school management teams to comply immediately with the new directive. They urged students, parents and stakeholders to remain calm while authorities work to stabilise the situation, assuring that a new resumption date will be communicated later.

Officials emphasised that the shutdown is a preventive step aimed at safeguarding lives and restoring confidence across educational institutions.
