Abduction of students in Kebbi State has drawn strong condemnation from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which urged the Federal Government to take urgent and decisive action to stop the rising wave of insecurity in the country.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero, said in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja that the abduction was particularly disturbing given Kebbi’s reputation for proactive security measures and consistent social interventions that previously supported stability.
Ajaero noted that the incident shows Nigeria must rethink its security strategy, stressing that the ease with which bandits carried out the abduction suggests deeper security failures that should concern every citizen.
He said the tragedy calls back painful memories of past school attacks, adding that national promises made after the Chibok incident had not been fulfilled, as another abduction now threatens students’ safety once again.
Ajaero urged Nigerians to support Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, as families and authorities confront the trauma caused by the attack. He also called on the Federal Government to strengthen efforts to secure the country’s vast landmass, noting that current spending has not produced meaningful improvements.
He warned that insecurity is spreading beyond the states currently experiencing attacks and that urgent action is required to prevent wider escalation.
