The Imo State Police Command has uncovered a decomposing body during a major security raid on suspected kidnapping hideouts at Okuku-Agwa forest in Owerri West Local Government Area.
The Command’s Spokesman, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement issued in Owerri on Friday. He said the successful operation was carried out on November 5 in collaboration with the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit and local vigilance groups, describing it as a milestone in strengthening public security across the state.
“The intelligence-driven operation, coordinated by ACP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, led to the discovery of a decomposing corpse inside an abandoned livestock farm deep within the Okuku-Agwa forest,” Okoye stated.
“The area was cordoned off, and the body was evacuated to the morgue for forensic examination.”
He explained that samples had been collected by the Command’s Forensic Unit for DNA testing to determine whether they match those of Mr. Jeffery Ucheagwu of Ihembosi, who was reportedly abducted on October 14 at Site and Services, Umuguma, Owerri West.
Okoye added that the dislodged hideout remains under round-the-clock security surveillance to prevent the criminals from regrouping and to support ongoing intelligence gathering on their activities.
He further stated that the Command had intensified efforts to track down the gang responsible for Ucheagwu’s abduction and ensure his possible rescue “if he is still alive.”
Police Reaffirm Commitment to Public Security
Okoye quoted the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aboki Danjuma, as commending the operatives for their gallantry and professionalism during the security raid. Danjuma reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks and maintain peace across Imo State.
He appealed to residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and supportive of ongoing security efforts by providing credible information that could assist investigations. Visit GMTNewsng for more news.
