Bago’s development has become a symbol of progress and transformation in Niger State, according to the former Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Mohammed Kuta-Yahaya. Speaking with journalists in Bida on Sunday, Kuta-Yahaya said Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s initiatives have now put Niger on the global map.
He noted that Bago’s development efforts have elevated Niger to compete with its contemporaries worldwide. “Bago is taking Niger to greater heights, and it is now at par with other states across the globe,” said the Pro-Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University.
Highlighting the governor’s focus on agriculture, Kuta-Yahaya explained that Bago’s bold steps have advanced agricultural development to new levels of excellence. “A lot of developmental works are ongoing across the state, and the trajectory of growth is unprecedented,” he said, adding that Bago’s development has boosted citizens’ consciousness and optimism for the future.
According to him, infrastructural expansion under Bago’s development has touched many parts of the state. He cited the Bida Ring Road project as a major achievement, saying it would ease traffic along the Lagos, Abuja, Northern corridor and stimulate economic activity.
“Niger is on the verge of making history in governance, development, and grassroots mobilisation,” the former SSG added.
Kuta-Yahaya also praised the Governor for strengthening the Ward Development Committees, describing the initiative as a key aspect of Bago’s development. He explained that each of the 274 ward committees in Niger receives one million naira monthly, making a total of 88 million naira for executing local projects.
“With this initiative, people at the grassroots can now feel the real impact of governance, not just in Minna or local government headquarters,” he said.
He further applauded Bago’s development as a model for devolving power and governance closer to the people, calling it “a worthy example for other states.”
Kuta-Yahaya commended President Bola Tinubu for initiating a similar ward development policy across the country, noting that “democracy has taken firm root in our system.”
Speaking on the recently conducted local government elections, he said Bago’s development reflects in the transparency and fairness of the polls. “Niger will be a shining example in this direction; it is a good omen for peace, unity, and sustainable development,” he concluded.
