The wife of Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, has distributed fertilisers to farmers across all 17 Local Government Areas of the state to enhance agricultural productivity and strengthen food security.

Speaking during the official fertiliser distribution ceremony held in Enugu, Mrs. Mbah said the empowerment initiative from her office was designed to provide registered farmers with critical inputs needed to increase yields and improve livelihoods.

“By empowering you with these fertilisers, we are strengthening the entire agricultural sector in our state. Increased crop output means more food on our tables, higher incomes for our families, and a more robust economy for Enugu,” she said.

Collaborative Effort with Agriculture Ministry

Mrs. Mbah explained that the fertiliser distribution programme was jointly implemented by her office and the Enugu State Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, headed by Commissioner Mr. Patrick Uburu.

She noted that fertiliser remains essential to improving soil fertility and ensuring sustainable agricultural practices.

“This initiative clearly commits to ensuring food security within our state because when our farmers thrive, Enugu thrives,” she added.

The governor’s wife urged the beneficiaries to apply the fertilisers responsibly and not divert them for storage or resale.

“Responsible use will maximise your yields and ensure this empowerment truly transforms your livelihood,” she advised.

Visionary Leadership for Agricultural Growth

Mrs. Mbah commended Mr. Uburu for his leadership and the Enugu State Government’s renewed focus on agriculture. She also thanked stakeholders, development partners, and agricultural experts who contributed to the project’s success.

“Their expertise strengthens the foundation of our agrarian programmes, ensuring that our farmers receive inputs, training, and technical assistance to maximise productivity,” she noted.

Government’s Focus on Sustainable Food Production

Commissioner Patrick Uburu, represented by Mr. Mike Ogbuewu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, said the fertiliser distribution initiative aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to make Enugu self-sufficient in food production.

“We want residents to see agriculture as a business capable of growing Enugu’s economy and creating jobs,” Uburu said.

He added that the government was prioritising modern farming techniques, mechanisation, and partnerships to expand the state’s agricultural footprint.

Beneficiaries Commend Fertiliser Distribution Initiative

A beneficiary, Mrs. Anastasia Ani, thanked the governor’s wife for supporting farmers, pledging to use the fertiliser efficiently to boost her harvest.

“I will apply the fertiliser properly to increase my yield and support my family,” she said.

The fertiliser distribution initiative forms part of Enugu’s broader food security and rural empowerment agenda, designed to reduce dependence on imported food and empower local farmers. GMTNewsng
