ENUGU, October 6, 2025
The Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI), Enugu, Professor Christian Anieke, has issued a stern warning to newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session to avoid illicit drug use, cultism, stealing, and other forms of misconduct.
Speaking during the university’s orientation programme held on Monday in Enugu, Professor Anieke said the institution would not tolerate any form of indiscipline, noting that drug use was a taboo at GOUNI. He explained that the university prioritizes the mental health and moral uprightness of its students, adding that those struggling with drug-related habits should seek confidential help rather than conceal their challenges.
He maintained that the institution has zero tolerance for cultism, pointing out that such activities undermine academic performance and destroy the moral fabric of any university community. The Vice Chancellor warned that anyone caught recruiting others into cult groups would face severe disciplinary action from the university management.
Professor Anieke further advised students against taking or sharing nude pictures, either privately or on social media, noting that such actions could have damaging consequences in the future. He also cautioned against theft in hostels, adding that repeated incidents could compel the school to install surveillance cameras to ensure safety and accountability.
The Registrar of the university, Dr. Peace Ike, also addressed the new students, urging them to adhere strictly to academic and ethical standards. She emphasized that students must attain a minimum of 75 percent lecture attendance to qualify for examinations and warned that the university maintains zero tolerance for examination malpractice. Dr. Ike encouraged the students to report any issue affecting their academic or personal well-being to the appropriate university authorities. GMTNewsng
