An NGO, ‘Ezeagu In Diaspora International Association (EDIA)’, Enugu, says it has budgeted over N100 million to empower 500 youths from Ezeagu Council Area of Enugu State with digital and vocational skills.

The President of EDIA, John Anagolu, disclosed this during the association’s 2025 Youth Empowerment Programme held on Sunday at the International Conference Centre, Enugu.

Anagolu said the 500 beneficiaries would be trained in vocational, agricultural, digital, technical, entrepreneurial, healthcare, fitness, sports and community development skills, among others.

He said the scheme aimed to empower beneficiaries to be productive in society, enabling them to uplift others and help transform Ezeagu, Enugu State and Nigeria.

“So, we plan to empower 500 youths but within the space of two weeks we did the advert we have 1, 208 people registered in our platform and we can’t send anyone away.

“This is why we are begging Enugu State government to partner with us to absorb these people that are registered with us so they can at least be given opportunity to learn a skill,“ he appealed.

Anagolu commended the state Governor, Peter Mbah, for his developmental strides, stating that EDIA, a global organisation of distinguished personalities from Nigeria and abroad, was established to support government efforts.

“Our core mandates is to drive economic development through skill acquisition, mentorship,  promote creativity and innovation and eliminate crime through empowerment and creation of employment opportunities to our teaming youths,“ he said.

In his remarks,  Mbah said the initiative was in line with his administration’s vision to equip and empower Enugu youths with  the right skills that would make them globally competitive.

Mbah, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, commended Anagolu for supporting youths in Ezeagu to acquire skills that would make them employers of labour while  creating wealth for themselves.

He assured the EDIA that the government would partner with it to achieve its objectives and contribute to building the state.

On his part, the Keynote Speaker, Dr Kingsley Eze, urged the youths to embrace technology as a tool to drive ideas, warning that hard work in the wrong environment could lead to frustration.

Mrs Olangwa Ezekwu, the Special Adviser to Mbah on Diaspora Matters,  said the administration was committed in partnering with Enugu citizens in diaspora to develop the state. GMTNewsng
