Dangote Refinery Sacks Nigerian Workers After Joining PENGASSAN
LAGOS, September 26, 2025 – The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has terminated the employment of all its Nigerian staff, less than 24 hours after the majority of them joined the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
In a memo dated September 25, 2025, and signed by Femi Adekunle, Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management, the company stated that the mass dismissal was part of a “total re-organisation” of the refinery. The decision followed reported cases of sabotage in different units of the multi-billion-dollar plant.
According to the notice, the affected workers were instructed to hand over all company property in their possession to their line managers and obtain official exit clearance.
The refinery’s finance department was also directed to process the computation of benefits and entitlements for the sacked employees in line with their contractual terms of employment.
While appreciating the contributions of the disengaged staff, the refinery’s management expressed gratitude for their services during their time with the company.
The development comes amid a heated trade dispute between Dangote Refinery and PENGASSAN over unionization rights, raising concerns about labour relations in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. GMTNewsng
