Abuja, Sept. 19, 2025 – President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to the Elebute family following the passing of Professor Oyinade Elebute, a distinguished Nigerian physician, academic, and healthcare pioneer. She died on September 13 at the age of 91.

Prof. Elebute was a renowned Professor of Physiology at the University of Lagos and co-founder of Hygeia Nigeria Ltd, Lagoon Hospitals, and Hygeia HMO Ltd. She dedicated her career to advancing medical practice, training future generations of health professionals, and laying the foundation for modern private healthcare services in Nigeria.

In a tribute, President Tinubu described her as a trailblazer whose passion for science and medicine will continue to inspire Nigerians for generations.

“Nigeria has lost a trailblazer. Her passion for science and medicine will continue to inspire many generations. The nation is profoundly grateful to role models such as Prof. Oyinade Elebute, who demonstrated that women and girls can succeed with the right education and opportunities,” the President said.

The President prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and asked God to grant comfort to her family and loved ones as they mourn the loss of their beloved mother, grandmother, and matriarch. GMTNewsng
