Ughelli – Delta State, September 10, 2025: The Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected female drug dealer alongside three of her apprentices during a coordinated raid in Ughelli North Local Government Area, as part of its intensified war against the sale and distribution of illicit drugs in the state.
The command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the arrest in a statement made available to journalists in Warri on Wednesday, stressing that the breakthrough followed credible intelligence about illegal drug operations within the Ughelli axis.
Edafe explained that the raid was conducted on August 29 by police operatives attached to the Ughelli Area Command, who acted on actionable information concerning the activities of individuals engaged in the sale of narcotics and controlled substances in Afisere and Ughelli town.
“The operatives trailed and arrested a drug baron who operates a chemist store in Afisere Community alongside three of her apprentices,” the police spokesman said. He noted that the suspect had been on the command’s radar following repeated reports of her illegal dealings.
According to him, the female suspect later led the operatives to her residence in Afisere, where a search warrant was executed. The raid uncovered a large stockpile of banned drugs, reinforcing suspicions that she was a key distributor of narcotics in the area.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects included: 355 bottles of CSC codeine, 57 rolls of 50MG tramadol capsules, 335 rolls of 100mg tramadol capsules,” Edafe disclosed. “Others were: 33 rolls of 200mg super royal, seven backwoods, 540 sachets of swinol capsules and 16 cups of Canadian liquid cannabis.”
The police said that preliminary investigation established the suspect as a major supplier of illicit drugs not only in Ughelli but also in surrounding communities, operating under the guise of a chemist store to sustain her trade.
Edafe further emphasized that the successful operation aligned with the directive of Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, who has vowed to dismantle drug networks and criminal syndicates fueling insecurity in Delta State. “The command will not relent in the fight against crime. We will continue to pursue drug peddlers until our communities are safe,” he assured.
He added that investigation into the matter was still ongoing, while the suspects would be arraigned in court upon conclusion of the process. The command also urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to aid the fight against illicit drugs and safeguard communities in Delta State. GMTNewsng
