Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State has successfully hosted the 2025 Women’s August Meeting, with the theme “Women as Nation Builders.” The event, held at the council secretariat in Agbani, brought together women across all 14 political wards, community leaders, and stakeholders to highlight the critical role of women in grassroots and national development.
Representing the First Lady of Enugu State, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, her Special Assistant on Special Duties, Mrs. Chidimma Egonu, Esq., praised the initiative, stressing that the meeting “is a clear testament that the leadership of Nkanu West is on the right track in empowering and uplifting the people.”
The wife of the Nkanu West Chairman, Mrs. Ngozi Ogbodo, who spearheaded the program, distributed empowerment packages to over 20 women in each of the 14 electoral wards. The items included clothing materials, foodstuffs, and cash support targeted at helping women start and grow small businesses. She noted that women remain the foundation of every thriving society, and that “supporting them means securing the future for families and communities alike.”

Two beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the initiative. Mrs. Ujunwa Ogbu from Ndiagu Obuno said the support she received would enable her to expand her small food trade, noting that “this package is a real lifeline for women like me who want to contribute more to their families and communities.” Similarly, Mrs. Josephine Nnamani from Amodu explained that the empowerment items had given her hope, adding that “it shows that our leaders truly care about the struggles of rural women and are willing to help us stand on our feet.”
Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Council, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, reaffirmed his administration’s alignment with the people-oriented vision of Governor Peter Mbah. He explained that Nkanu West continues to benefit immensely from the state government’s transformative programs, adding that “our administration draws strength from their example, and we remain committed to grassroots empowerment, inclusivity, and sustainable growth.”

The event was attended by top local leaders including Deputy Chairman Engr. Friday Nnam, Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Chidiebere Ani, Esq., Chief Security Officer Ozoemena Nwobodo-Agbo, and HRH Igwe Okechukwu Nwobodo Egbune, alongside other political stakeholders and community representatives.
