~ Warns Against Social Media Misinformation
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has strongly refuted claims linking him to militant groups, describing such allegations as malicious fabrications aimed at destabilizing the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, March 24, 2025, by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the governor denounced a series of viral videos alleging explosions at oil and gas facilities in the state. He insisted that the footage was fake and designed to create unnecessary panic.
“Governor Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage criminal elements to undermine the peace of the state or the safety of critical oil and gas infrastructure,” Chukwudi stated.
He noted that communities where the alleged incidents were said to have occurred had already dismissed the claims, confirming that all government assets in their areas remained secure and fully operational.
The governor also issued a stern warning to individuals and groups attempting to exploit the state’s political climate to incite violence. “Those seeking to foment trouble under any guise should desist immediately. We will not tolerate actions that threaten the peace and development of Rivers State,” he warned.
Additionally, Fubara cautioned bloggers and social media influencers against spreading falsehoods, stating that their actions were fueling unnecessary tension.
“It is important for those engaging in misinformation to stop forthwith. The recent spate of fake reports has already led to miscalculations that do not serve the best interests of the state,” he emphasized.
Amid his current suspension from office by President Bola Tinubu and the appointment of a sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs, Fubara maintained that his priority remains the peace and stability of Rivers. He urged the people to remain vigilant and not allow false narratives to derail the state’s progress. GMTNewsng
