Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged unwavering commitment to his mandate and to the transformation of Rivers State, assuring that power will not alter his character or his values. The Governor made this commitment during his 50th birthday celebration at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, when leaders, elders, and stakeholders of the State gathered to felicitate with him.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Governor Fubara reassured Rivers people that he remains devoted to his promises to drive the State toward fulfilling its potential. He said his focus would remain on delivering transformative initiatives that align with the aspirations of the citizens.

“I want to say that I will still be the Fubara that you know; power will not change me. I will still make sure that what I hold dear in life remains, which is God and my respect for people. I will continue to maintain it,” the Governor said.

Governor Fubara also expressed deep emotion as he reflected on the gathering of leaders to celebrate him, admitting that it moved him to tears of joy. He noted that although he does not traditionally celebrate birthdays, this occasion marked a significant milestone in his life.

“Power will come, power will go, but I will still remain the Fubara that you know. With your support, that Rivers State that we all yearn for, we will definitely, even if we don’t get it completely, put those things in place that will channel and drive us to that Rivers State,” the Governor said.

He emphasized his resolve to act in a manner that would preserve his integrity and the trust reposed in him. “I will not do anything, act in any manner that will bring disgrace to myself or to everyone of you that have decided and are ready to sacrifice everything for us,” he said.

The Governor further noted the significance of the day, describing it as a celebration of life and divine grace. “This morning is a birthday morning. It is not a morning to discuss politics. It is a morning to say I am happy; I am 50 years, according to you. But the most important thing is: I am celebrating my Golden Jubilee. It means that I have joined the league of the old men from today,” he remarked humorously.

Former Governor of Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omehia, commended Governor Fubara’s leadership, describing him as a deliverer who has shielded Rivers State from the forces of destruction. He stated, “It is, therefore, worthwhile to celebrate such a patient and meticulous leader, loved by all Nigerians on his 50th birthday because he has continued to prioritise the interest of the State and protect it.”

Sir Omehia praised Governor Fubara for his faith in God and his ability to navigate governance with divine direction. He assured the Governor of the continued support of Rivers people in ensuring the success of his administration.

In his remarks, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, lauded the Governor’s resolve and leadership amid political distractions. He remarked, “Regardless of who a kingmaker is, as soon as the king is crowned, such person must give way to the king to perform his duties.” He criticized the actions of the immediate past Governor, whom he accused of attempting to distract Governor Fubara.

Prince Secondus further praised the Governor’s character, describing him as a man of steel who has demonstrated trust in God, unity, and inclusivity. He noted that these traits have endeared Governor Fubara to Rivers people and Nigerians at large.

The event featured prayers by clergy, the cutting of the 50th birthday cake, a toast, and the presentation of gifts to the Governor. Elders and stakeholders also organized a special birthday party to honor Governor Fubara, whom they described as the Liberator of Rivers people.

Later in the day, members of the State Executive Council, Local Government Council chairmen, Permanent Secretaries, Government House staff, Service Commanders, and others visited the Governor to offer their felicitations and present gifts in celebration of his Golden Jubilee. GMTNewsng
