The First Lady of Rivers State, Lady Valerie Siminalayi Fubara, has commended the exemplary behavior of children in the state and encouraged them to continue supporting their parents while striving to make a positive impact wherever they go.

This was disclosed in a statement obtained by GMTNewsng from the Government House Press Unit, Port Harcourt, following the 2024 Christmas Children’s Party held on Thursday, December 26. The event brought together children from the 23 local government areas of the state, including non-indigenous children and those with physical challenges.

According to the statement, Lady Fubara emphasized the significance of Christmas as a celebration of love and the birth of Jesus Christ, urging everyone to reflect deeply on Christ’s mission of love and redemption.

The First Lady also shared her experiences during her visits to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital and the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, where she celebrated the birth of children on Christmas Day and extended goodwill to nursing mothers. Additionally, she visited the Port Harcourt Children’s Home in Borikiri, where she spent time with motherless babies, celebrating their innocence and the beauty they bring to the world.

“At this year’s Christmas Children’s Party, we made efforts to bring together children from all walks of life, creating a space where they could sit, play, eat, and dance together as brothers and sisters,” Lady Fubara reportedly said. She noted that special attention was given to include children with disabilities, ensuring an inclusive and memorable celebration.

The statement also highlighted Lady Fubara’s reflections on the unique coincidence of celebrating Christmas on Boxing Day. “Steps were taken to distribute gifts to the children and to pray for their well-being, creating a qualitative fun session that will remain in their memories,” she said.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who attended the celebration, was described in the statement as moving through the event to interact with the children, waving, shaking hands, and leaving them with cherished memories.

Lady Fubara further urged the children to emulate the life of Jesus Christ by making a positive difference in their families and communities. “Pray fervently for God to bless and prosper your parents so they can continue to meet your needs,” she advised. “Be humble, obedient, and supportive at home. Help with household chores and work hard to achieve excellent grades in school. You are the joy of every home, and we are proud of the well-behaved children in Rivers State.”

The statement also quoted Lady Fubara expressing her gratitude to the Governor for his unwavering commitment to the growth and development of children in the state and for his support in ensuring the success of the Christmas Children’s Party.

The event featured vibrant performances by Virtue Dancers, Kalabari Iria Dancers, Wonder Time Children from Opobo Kingdom, the Rivers State Council for Arts and Culture, poetry by Diseye the Poet, and music by DJ Arnold.
