•As Secondus Inaugurates 13.985km Bori Internal Roads

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to establish cottage industries and provide essential social amenities to create job opportunities and wealth for residents, promoting peace and development in the State. This was disclosed by Nelson Chukwudi, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

Governor Fubara made this commitment at Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori Town, during the inauguration of the 13.985-kilometer Bori internal roads project in Khana Local Government Area.

Bori serves as the headquarters of the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, encompassing Khana, Gokana, Tai, Eleme, Oyigbo, Andoni, and Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Areas.

The Governor lamented the actions of certain political leaders who undermine community development, describing them as “self-styled reprobate agents of destruction.” He criticized these individuals for prioritizing personal gain over collective progress, saying, “They sugarcoat bitterness in the guise of love and work to undermine developmental efforts. Genuine love for the people must be selfless, sacrificial, and consistent in advancing the common good.”

“My interest in this Senatorial District is genuine,” Governor Fubara affirmed. “It is not about what I intend to get. The success of this Senatorial District is my success. I feel sorry for those who have decided to be agents of destruction. Ask yourself, if they loved you, why didn’t they better your lot before? That is the truth.”

Celebrating the completion of the Bori Internal Roads project, the Governor emphasized its importance to the entire Senatorial District, noting that Bori serves as its political headquarters. He added, “We did not make any mistake in deciding to complete this project. It is about the interest of Khana people and our Senatorial District. This first phase covers approximately 14 kilometers and 23 streets. I can assure you we will embark on the second phase.”

Governor Fubara reiterated that developing Khana Local Government Area requires collective effort, which will ultimately benefit the Rivers South-East Senatorial District. He highlighted Bori Town’s historic role as one of the State’s three old districts meant to spur development, lamenting the failure of past administrations to transform it into a thriving urban center.

“We must develop this district,” the Governor declared. “We will not limit development in Bori to roads alone. We will provide good hospitals, address school issues, and establish cottage industries. When there is employment, development will follow. And we must achieve this together.”

He appealed to the people of Bori and Ogoni to be accommodating to strangers, stressing that development thrives in an inclusive environment. “Our Polytechnic here was once the best but declined because of how we treated strangers. Development comes when people from outside live with you. You must change that attitude and be accommodating.”

Governor Fubara also assured the community of continued support from his administration, highlighting the Bori Zonal Hospital as one of the priority projects that would improve healthcare in the district.

Former PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, inaugurated the project, describing the completed Bori Internal Roads as a long-awaited miracle and a testament to Governor Fubara’s commitment to urban renewal. “This project is a wonderful facelift. It is important that we maintain the drainage and roads so the Governor can do more,” he said.

Praising Governor Fubara’s leadership, Secondus remarked, “He is a man with humility and respect for elders. He is not greedy and always willing to sacrifice for others. Your Excellency, be strong and courageous because you will overcome your enemies. Power comes from God, and you are spreading love across the State.”

The Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Barrister Elloka Tasie-Amadi, provided a technical description of the project, stating, “The Bori Internal Roads comprise 23 roads totaling 13.985 kilometers, with 10,000 meters of drainage. Built with durable materials, these roads are designed to last for decades.”

In his welcome address, the Chairman of Khana Local Government Council, Hon. Martins Nwigbo, hailed the project as historic, saying it fulfills Governor Fubara’s development promises and gives the community a sense of belonging in his administration.

Kingsley Agu, representing Aleed Constitution Limited, the project contractor, assured residents of the roads’ durability, highlighting the comprehensive planning and execution that went into the project. GMTNewsng
