Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has emphasized his administration’s commitment to executing and delivering strategic projects aimed at improving the lives of the people on an enduring scale.

The Governor made this assertion during the inauguration of the remodelled Government Girls’ Secondary School in Ahoada Town, Ahoada East Local Government Area, on Friday. The event was highlighted in a press release dated December 6, 2024, by Nelson Chukwudi, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, and made available to GMTNewsng.com.

In recognition of his contributions, Governor Fubara was honored with the title Eze Yawe Ugo of Ekpeye Land (The King Who Brings Happiness and Joy to Ekpeye Land) by the Ekpeye Council of Traditional Rulers.

Speaking at the event, Governor Fubara revealed that the school project was inherited upon assuming office on May 29, 2024, and his administration chose to retain the original contractors due to its prioritization of education. He noted, “The investment made will translate into providing quality educational training for the girl-child to become bold, resourceful, and responsible citizens.”

He added that the remodelled school symbolizes his administration’s focus on meaningful projects. “We will not celebrate things that will not have meaning. This is a special school for future mothers and wives of great men. Producing a quality girl-child ensures the survival of the nation,” Fubara stated.

The Governor further assured that his administration would only undertake projects that are impactful and sustainable. “We will not do anything we cannot stand behind with pride,” he said.

Fubara referenced his recent declaration to deliver pro-people projects in Omuma Local Government Area, stating that his administration’s approach is different from past practices. “Our projects are not for mere fanfare but are strategically provided to address critical development needs,” he explained.

He criticized an individual he described as “a data boy and online dog seller,” accusing him of undermining his administration’s efforts on social media without understanding their significance. Referring to the inauguration of the 11.8km Okehi-Umuola-Eberi link road connecting Omuma and Etche LGAs, the Governor said, “This is a road that adds value, unlike previous projects that lacked strategic importance.”

Governor Fubara expressed his gratitude to the Ekpeye people for their unwavering support despite facing harassment and intimidation. He recounted how prominent figures, including Eze Ekpeye Logbo, His Imperial Majesty Eze Kelvin Anugwo; Eze Cassidy Ikegbidi; and his Chief of Staff, Dr. Edison Ehie, endured arrests and false accusations due to their loyalty to his administration.

“Because of their support, some were arrested and falsely charged. But the enemy’s time is limited. We will stay patient and follow due process with the fear of God to overcome these challenges,” he said.

Governor Fubara also pledged to address the concerns of the Ekpeye Council of Traditional Rulers, including recognizing designated traditional stools and reconstructing access roads in the area. He assured that remaining roadworks and a bridge would be completed subject to fund availability.

Providing details about the project, Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ovy Chinedum Chukwuma, highlighted the scope of the remodelled school, which includes 24 classrooms, science laboratories, a library, an assembly hall, administrative offices, and residential quarters for the principal and vice principals. Additional facilities include a perimeter fence, a generator house, water supply systems, and sports amenities.

The Executive Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Area, Chibudom Ezu, expressed gratitude to the Governor for transforming the school, which had previously been a hideout for miscreants due to years of neglect. He commended the Governor’s intervention in restoring the institution’s functionality.

He noted that the Governor had charged them to accelerate the project in October 2023, ensuring adherence to specifications. GMTNewsng
