Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has been commended for embodying values and faith that promote the greater good of society. The Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria and Vatican State Ambassador, Most Rev. Michael Francis Crotty, expressed this during a courtesy visit to the governor’s office in Enugu on Tuesday.

Archbishop Crotty, who was in Enugu for the centenary celebration of Bigard Memorial Seminary, praised the institution’s legacy in shaping young priests. He emphasized the global influence of the seminary, which has produced numerous archbishops, bishops, and priests serving both in Nigeria and across the world.

“This achievement is a sign of the great role Nigeria is playing in the universal church. Many of them are from Enugu and are serving in Nigeria and beyond,” Archbishop Crotty said, highlighting the seminary’s contributions to the Catholic Church globally.

The Apostolic Nuncio conveyed Pope Francis’ appreciation to Governor Mbah for his unwavering support for the church. Reflecting on the enduring ties between Nigeria and the Vatican, he noted that the people of both nations are united by their shared faith.

Governor Mbah, in his response, lauded the Catholic Church for its enduring value system, stating that it had profoundly influenced his work ethics and decision-making.

“Our horizon is formed by the institution of the Catholic Church and the value system which makes our state outstanding. Catholic forged my rugged values and that has helped me in life,” the governor stated.

He acknowledged the church’s critical role in shaping young minds, which he said has contributed to the moral and societal excellence for which Enugu State is known.

During the visit, Governor Mbah showcased some of Enugu’s innovative landmarks, including the digital museum, digital artworks, and the Experiential Centre. He underscored Enugu’s historical significance in Nigeria’s economic, social, and administrative evolution.

The governor also congratulated the Catholic Church on the centenary milestones of Bigard Memorial Seminary, describing its achievements as remarkable and impactful. GMTNewsng
