In a direct appeal to Rivers State citizens, Governor Fubara sheds light on the true cause behind the ongoing political tensions – a battle for control over state resources. Speaking at the Omega Power Ministries, he emphasizes his commitment to using these resources responsibly and urges continued prayers for guidance. His N200 million donation to the church’s projects demonstrates his support for community-led initiatives, while also signaling a call for solidarity as he steers the state through turbulent times.

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, recently disclosed that the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State is primarily driven by the struggle for control over the state’s resources. This statement was part of a press release issued on Sunday, November 3, 2024, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi, and shared with GMTNewsng. Governor Fubara expressed his commitment to ensuring that these resources are used responsibly and for the benefit of the Rivers people.

Speaking at a gathering of Omega Power Ministries (OPM) Worldwide, during the 51st birthday celebration of the church’s General Overseer, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, Governor Fubara urged the congregation to pray for his administration. He highlighted the need for focused leadership in order to overcome obstacles and deliver effective governance to the people of Rivers State.

“There is a reason for this crisis, and that reason is the control of the resources of Rivers State,” the Governor stated. “Rivers State resources belong to you, and we will make sure that the resources are applied judiciously for the betterment of Rivers State.” Fubara emphasized that while he remains committed to public service, he relies on the prayers of the people to maintain clarity and purpose amidst challenges.

Governor Fubara went on to commend Apostle Chinyere for his humanitarian efforts, which include educational initiatives within OPM that equip young people with vocational and technical skills. The Governor reflected on the state of public infrastructure upon his assumption of office, noting that many facilities were in decay, yet the Apostle’s work continued to benefit the community in tangible ways.

“I want to commend you for what you are doing,” Fubara praised. “Life is not about taking. What is important in life is giving, and anybody who believes that it is only taking, the person won’t go far in life.” He recognized Apostle Chinyere’s ongoing contributions, saying, “You don’t know what you are doing, but those of us who are outside understand your contributions to humanity.”

Political analyst Dr. Musa Jibril noted, “Governor Fubara’s remarks underscore a long-standing issue in Nigerian politics—the struggle for control over state resources. This statement reflects an emerging trend where politicians publicly commit to transparency, which, if genuine, could redefine governance in Rivers State.”

The Governor also extended gratitude to the OPM congregation for their unwavering support and prayers, which he credited with sustaining his administration through numerous trials. In recognition of the church’s efforts, he donated N200 million to support ongoing infrastructure development projects, including the church’s television station building, intended to provide accommodations for visitors attending ministry programs.

Governor Fubara highlighted the importance of the congregation’s support for Apostle Chinyere, noting, “Power will not succeed without the support of you. So, I want to thank you for supporting Power.” He expressed appreciation for the Apostle’s prayers since the early stages of his administration, which he said have been instrumental in withstanding various challenges.

Social commentator Nkechi Okafor observed, “The Governor’s gesture of donating N200 million to OPM is not only significant for the church but serves as a reminder of the influence religious institutions wield in the region. It also signals a strategic partnership between the government and faith-based organizations in advancing social welfare.”

Governor Fubara expressed confidence in overcoming current difficulties with the church’s prayers, saying, “There is nothing God cannot do. So, I know that with your continuous prayers, we will overcome this present challenge.” He reiterated the importance of prayer for the progress of Rivers State and for the defense of humanity, urging the congregation to continue their support.

Earlier, the Governor attended the birthday thanksgiving service for Rivers State Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu at Salvation Ministries, GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt. His presence at both events underscored his commitment to building alliances across religious and political institutions, promoting unity and stability during a politically tense period in Rivers State.
