The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has announced that it will soon embark on a massive disconnection of customers who have failed to settle their outstanding electricity bills. This public announcement, made by Emeka Ezeh, Head of EEDC Corporate Communications, aims to inform all affected customers about the urgent need to clear their debts before the disconnection team arrives at their premises.
In the statement, Ezeh stressed the importance of prompt payment, warning that defaulters will not only face disconnection but also incur a reconnection fee in addition to their unpaid bills. “We encourage our esteemed customers to pay their electricity bills before we are forced to disconnect them,” he stated.
Customers have been reminded that payments can be made at EEDC Cash Offices or through any authorized collection agent near them. The company emphasized that customers do not have to wait for marketers to visit their homes before making payments. “It is the responsibility of every customer to ensure that their bills are settled on time,” Ezeh added.
Ezeh noted that the current electricity bill, reflecting energy consumption for the previous month, is expected to be paid by the 12th day of the following month. Customers who have accumulated arrears are encouraged to clear them immediately. “We have made provisions for customers to benefit from our ongoing discount scheme, which can help in settling overdue payments,” he explained.
Failure to pay on time will lead to inevitable disconnection, causing inconvenience and additional surcharges for reconnection. The company urged all customers to avoid this by ensuring their bills are up to date. “Prompt payment will save our customers the hassle of being disconnected or surcharged,” Ezeh warned.
EEDC highlighted that its ability to sustain operations and provide quality service to customers depends on timely payments. “We rely on the cooperation of our customers to keep the lights on. If bills are not paid, it becomes difficult to maintain the high level of service we aim to deliver,” Ezeh further explained.
The company assured customers of its commitment to providing efficient service but reiterated that customer support in paying bills is crucial. “We are committed to serving you better, but we need your help in achieving this goal. Paying your bills on time ensures that we can continue to offer the services you rely on,” the statement concluded.
Ezeh also reassured customers that EEDC remains focused on delivering reliable electricity services across its coverage area. However, this can only be maintained if customers play their part by fulfilling their financial obligations. “The relationship between EEDC and its customers is a partnership. We provide the service, but prompt payment is how customers can support us in serving them better,” he reiterated.
To make bill payments easier, EEDC reminded customers of the various payment channels available, including online platforms, which allow for flexibility and convenience. “There are multiple ways to pay your bills—whether in person or online—so there’s no excuse for delays,” Ezeh added.
Finally, Ezeh urged all customers to comply with the payment deadlines to avoid any disruption in their electricity supply. “It’s simple: pay your bills and enjoy uninterrupted service,” he advised.
This move by EEDC is seen as a crucial step to ensure the financial health of the company and the sustainability of electricity supply within the region. Ezeh urged cooperation from the public to avoid unnecessary inconveniences.
