Abuja – The WhatsApp number of Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, has been hacked and is currently being used by unauthorized individuals, his office revealed on Friday. In a statement issued by Boriowo Folasade, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the ministry, the public was urged to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to any fraudulent activities linked to the compromised number.

“The Minister’s WhatsApp number has unfortunately fallen into the hands of unknown individuals,” Folasade stated. “We advise the public to exercise caution and immediately report any suspicious messages or requests emanating from the number.” According to her, the attackers could be attempting to use the number for deceptive or illegal purposes.

The ministry confirmed that Professor Mamman has already reported the breach to relevant security agencies, who have launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are focused on identifying the individuals behind the unauthorized access. “The Minister acted swiftly by notifying security agencies to ensure that the issue is thoroughly investigated and resolved,” Folasade added.

Boriowo also urged Nigerians to be extra careful with any digital communications they receive from unfamiliar sources. “We want to remind the public that cyber threats are real, and it’s essential to double-check the authenticity of any unusual requests for sensitive information,” she cautioned.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education reassured citizens that steps are being taken to recover the compromised WhatsApp number and prevent further misuse. “We are working diligently to regain control and ensure the security of all communication channels,” Folasade said in closing.

The public has been encouraged to report any suspicious activity directly to the Ministry of Education or the relevant security agencies for swift action. The ministry remains committed to protecting its communication platforms and the integrity of official information.
