In a widely circulated video from a recent church service, Zimbabwean pastor, Prophet Uebert Angel, made controversial remarks advising men to divorce their wives if they attempt to control them. The cleric’s comments have sparked heated discussions on social media due to his strong stance on marital roles. He emphasized that men should never allow their wives to assume authority in the home, insisting that a man must always be the head of the household.

Prophet Angel expressed concern over the rising divorce rates, attributing the trend to what he described as women seeking equality with men. “The divorce rate is high because women are trying to become equal with men,” he remarked during the sermon, adding that this growing shift in gender dynamics is leading to the breakdown of marriages globally.

Citing statistics to support his claims, Prophet Angel pointed out that in the United States, the divorce rate stands at 55%, which he attributes to the push for gender equality. He compared this to Africa’s 50% divorce rate, which he believes is following the same path. In contrast, he highlighted India’s 1% divorce rate, claiming it is due to women in India being “totally submissive” and accepting their traditional roles.

The pastor further illustrated his point with a spiritual analogy, recounting an experience where he commanded a demon to leave a person, and it obeyed him due to his authority. He suggested that this same principle should apply to marriages, with women submitting to their husbands as the authority figures. “Just as the demon obeyed me, a wife must also recognize her husband’s authority,” he declared.

Acknowledging that his views might provoke backlash, Prophet Angel boldly stated: “I know people will attack me for this, but men, if she insists on controlling you, divorce her and let her look for someone else to control.” His comments have since drawn a range of reactions from the public, sparking debates on gender roles and the institution of marriage.

Some viewers were outraged by the pastor’s message. A social media user commented, “What century is he living in? A marriage is a partnership, not a dictatorship. This kind of thinking only perpetuates toxic masculinity.” Others, however, sided with Prophet Angel’s perspective. One person wrote, “He’s only speaking the truth. Men are the head of the home, and any woman who doesn’t accept that is disrespecting God’s order.”

Interestingly, despite the divisive nature of his message, many women in the congregation appeared indifferent, with some even cheering him on with responses like “Yes, papa!” and “Preach on!” while others remained more reserved. GMTNewsng
