Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has reiterated his commitment to advancing development in the state, urging all Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidates to align their local government areas (LGAs) with the state’s progressive agenda. This was highlighted on Tuesday at the Nkanu West Local Government Secretariat in Agbani during the inauguration of the recently elected local government party executives and the handing over of party flags to councillorship candidates for the 14 wards in Nkanu West.

Representing Governor Mbah at the event, Enugu State PDP Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, delivered a message encouraging the electorate to support all PDP candidates in the upcoming September 21 Council Polls. “Governor Mbah has laid a solid foundation for development in Enugu State. We need all our candidates to continue this work at the grassroots level, and we trust in the people of Nkanu West to vote overwhelmingly for the PDP,” Chukwunweike said.

John Ogbodo, the PDP chairmanship candidate for Nkanu West, expressed his gratitude to the governor and the local party stakeholders for their endorsement of his candidacy. He assured that, if elected, his administration would follow in the governor’s footsteps by prioritizing inclusive governance and development projects. “I am committed to carrying on the developmental agenda set by Governor Mbah. Together, we will make Nkanu West a beacon of progress,” Ogbodo stated.

A key moment at the event was the defection of a large number of political leaders from opposition parties, including the Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to the PDP. The mass defection was seen as a significant boost to the PDP’s chances in the upcoming polls. Dr. Chukwunweike welcomed the new members, describing their decision as a step towards greater unity and progress for the community.

One of the prominent defectors, Chijioke Ogbodo, who had previously been a strong supporter of LP candidates during the 2023 elections, spoke to the press about his decision to switch allegiance to the PDP. “Governor Mbah’s impacts and his support for the candidacy of John Ogbodo convinced all of us to join hands with the PDP. We need leaders who we can trust to truly deliver, and we believe in the vision of both the governor and John Ogbodo,” Chijioke said.

John Ogbodo’s campaign, which has already covered 10 of the 14 wards in Nkanu West, continues to gather momentum as it nears completion. The candidate’s team is expected to conclude its campaign with a visit to Akpugo Wards 4 and 2, where Ogbodo will address local issues and outline his vision for the LGA.

Speaking further at the event, Dr. Chukwunweike emphasized the importance of unity within the party ahead of the elections. “We have a strong team, and with everyone’s support, we will ensure that Nkanu West remains a PDP stronghold. The people know that it is only through the PDP that true development will come to their communities,” he said.

The atmosphere at the inauguration was charged with excitement as the newly sworn-in party executives pledged their full commitment to the PDP’s victory in the forthcoming polls. They vowed to work tirelessly in mobilizing voters to ensure a resounding win for all the party’s candidates.
