…ENCOURAGES CUSTOMERS TO ENSURE INFORMATION UPDATE AHEAD OF THE UPGRADE
By Chelsea Chinenye
In a significant development concerning the STS prepaid meter upgrade, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) is gearing up for the Token Identifier (TID) rollover, set to commence by the end of February 2024. Customers are strongly urged to proactively update their information as a prerequisite for the impending meter upgrade.
To streamline the information update process, EEDC has introduced a user-friendly link where customers can effortlessly input their meter number, validate their mobile number, and confirm their email address. Emphasizing the simplicity of the process, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, highlighted its mandatory nature for customers seeking meter upgrades.
During a press briefing in Enugu over the weekend, Eze shared insights, stating, “The upgrade is obligatory for all prepaid meter customers, and compliance is imperative to avoid the risk of meter loss and service disconnection.”
To prevent any disruption in energy supply during the rollover period, Eze advised customers to secure sufficient energy units for the downtime, given that the vending platform will temporarily shut down, rendering meter recharge activities unavailable.
Explaining the post-rollover procedures, Eze clarified, “After the rollover, the initial energy purchase will involve three sets of 20-digit tokens (KCT1, KCT2, and the energy token) to reset, upgrade, and recharge the meter, completing the upgrade process.”
Customers are advised to input the provided tokens sequentially to ensure a seamless upgrade process. Eze also cautioned against hoarding unused tokens, emphasizing that upgraded meters will no longer accept them, and no refunds will be provided.
Reminding customers of the prior notification in early last year, Eze emphasized the cessation of credit token acceptance by all prepaid meters in its network by 24th November 2024, unless upgraded due to a global software update affecting all Standard Transfer Specification (STS) compliant prepaid meters.
Eze reiterated that the prepaid meter upgrade is cost-free for customers and urged them to resist extortion attempts.
